Do It Yourself Versus Professional
Sometimes when we travel to do work with our SERVPRO Storm Teams we come across customers that have attempted to remove the damaged items. If your physically able to do so then that is a good thing to help prevent further damage such as mold growth.
We do recommend that if you do remove it that remember you have to remove all of it, not just the parts that will come out easily.
In the photos above the customer had been on a waiting list for about 8 - 9 days and wanted to do what he could. As you can see he removed "some" of the drywall/sheetrock and also the insulation.
The photo after depicts what it should look like as far as removing the pieces of drywall/sheetrock attached in the corners, etc.
This ensures all of the storm water affected material is gone and created an easier path for the contractor to rebuild as well.
We spray and EPA registered disinfectant after we remove everything to aid in keeping bacteria and or mold from growing.
