In 2012, The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reported there were 365,000 residential house fires in the United States. These fires alone caused the 12,875 injuries and 2,380 lives. Those number do not includes first responder injuries or deaths. It equaled up to $5.7 billion worth of property damage.
Some of the Major causes were of course candles, and smoking. But specifically during the Summer Months they found extended usage of electrical appliances such as overhead lighting fixtures, portable and floor fans, and window air conditioning units. As with ANY electrical device there is always a potential of fire. Poor electrical work is often an unknown danger to the homeowner. This can include badly connected circuits, loose wires, and improper grounding.
